Sony’s revamped PS Plus aims to compete with Xbox Game Pass, which offers a wide variety of AAA and indie games along with day-one access to first-party Microsoft titles. PS Plus Essential is the basic service tier and retains all the PS Plus features that fans have enjoyed for some time now. PS Plus Extra steps it up with access to Sony’s game catalog, featuring hundreds of titles across PS4 and PS5. PS Plus Premium is the highest-priced option and introduces the Classics Catalog, cloud streaming, and game trials.

While Sony isn’t taking the same initiative as Microsoft and allowing PS Plus subscribers to have day-one access to Sony exclusives, its game trial service is a nice perk to have before making a purchase. Subscribers of PS Plus Premium should note that these trials are the full game and not demos made exclusive for the service. Additionally, PlayStation Plus’ free game trials will allow players to unlock trophies that will carry over to the full game should players decide to purchase it once the demo expires. Trophy hunters and speed runners are likely to do everything they can to collect as many trophies as possible before their time is up.

Most of the game trials listed above will last for two hours of playtime starting when players launch the game. However, some games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Horizon Forbidden West feature extended demos lasting five hours. That should be enough time to scoop up plenty of trophies. Should fans decide to purchase the full game, any progression and save files created throughout the play session will also carry over to the unlocked product.

It’s currently unknown how long these demos will be live on the service; both PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass tend to rotate games in and out of their catalogs due to their subscription-based nature. PlayStation Plus Premium and its accompanying tiers are still new, so these demos will likely be available for some time. However, players should still be on the lookout for updates regarding removals and additions to the service; otherwise, they may lose the opportunity to gain some trophies for free.
