RELATED: How to Get a Perfect Start in Need for Speed Unbound
The latest entry to the series, Need For Speed: Unbound,is taking the franchise to new heights. Following the trend of other Need For Speed games like being some of the best open-world racing games, Need For Speed: Unboundcontinues this course. This will make the game fun for everyone. However, Need For Speed: Unbound plays a lot like the other games in the series, but at the same time brings fresh things to set itself apart. To help players adjust to how Need For Speed: Unbound plays, this list will help them get even better and dominate their opponents.
5 Use The High Ground
A Need For Speed game wouldn’t feel the same without the cops because they make the player drive more aggressively since the whole goal is to escape. In turn, having cops chasing down players makes them race better. Players can use the same tips that are in Need For Speed: Heat to get away because of the same playstyle, but if they want to get away quicker, the higher ground is usually a good idea. To get there, players can use ramps, train tracks, or other unconventional ways that cops won’t use.
Instead, they may go around obstacles in order to get to players, which helps the player get away quickly. There are other ways to lose the cops like going on freeways, evading them, and sneaking around, which all work well. But the most effective way seems to be getting above them. This way, the players’ heat level will go down much quicker, which allows them to get back into the world.
4 Drifting
Like most racing games, drifting is important; it allows players to maintain speed and control around a really tight corner. If players played Need For Speed: Heat, they would understand this well since the game had some very good drifting cars. This helped them not only for races but also cop chases, where the cops would slam into a wall, but the player would fluidly drive through the corner, allowing them to get away easily.

This is evident in Need For Speed: Unbound, because a lot of tracks, and even the world itself have some very risky corners that give the player a high-risk-high-reward playstyle. Much like the games that came before, Need For Speed: Unbound also features some great drifting cars that players don’t need to customize much. If they learn to drift early on, the game as a whole becomes easier, because they can race more aggressively, allowing them to either win races more often and, as mentioned before, get away from cops more effectively.
3 Near Misses Are Important
As mentioned before, Need For Speed: Unbound is an open-world racing game, and much like the other Need For Speed games that used the open world, they were filled with traffic. So players could use them to get away from cops or win races. In turn, many of those Need For Speed games were both immersive and well-liked by fans. This stays true for Need For Speed: Unbound. In fact, the game encourages players to race more aggressively by getting near misses.
Meaning, they should drive extremely close to an NPC car all while being chased. Not only does it deter cops from pursuing the player, but it also fills up the nitro gauge each time this is done. Plus, if players really want to get away, they can combo these near misses together, allowing the nitro gauge to fill quickly. However, this tactic should be used for the more experienced driver, since they can easily crash into a car making the cops or other racers catch up to them. Once players have a feel of Need For Speed: Unbound, they can try this tip.
2 Draft Whenever Possible
This rule is not exclusive to Need For Speed: Unbound because this mechanic is featured in most racing games. If players are somewhat close to a racer in front of them, that can give them a small boost all without using nitro. So when they pull to the left or right of the car in front of them, they can be catapulted in front of the car they were just behind. In other Need For Speed games, if players were in last place, they could easily catch up to first if they kept on doing this.

However, much like those games which have traffic, this made drafting harder, but more immersive. In turn, many Need For Speed games felt excellent, which is why players consider them great street racers. This is carried over to Need For Speed: Unbound, and if players have experience with this strategy from the other games in the series, they can get into the rhythm of drafting a lot easier, because it’s the same system. Plus, if players draft each car during the race, they won’t need to rely on nitro as much.
1 Use Nitro Strategically
While players may want to press the nitro button as soon as they see a cop, or when the race starts, it’s usually never a good idea because it takes time for it to refill, unless they find ways to do so. It’s best to use the nitro in a more strategic way. For example, if they successfully get in and out of a corner by drifting, simply tapping the nitro button will go a long way. During races, if players are racing well, and maintain first place, they shouldn’t use it as much.
Nitro in most Need For Speed games are for emergency use, and inNeed For Speed: Unbound this stays the same. On top of that, if players are being chased, and if they time and use the nitro in a defensive manner, getting away from cops can be easy. Like many other games in the series, if players upgrade their cars to hold more nitro, they can be more dynamic with it, allowing them to be smarter with how they use it. If players use nitro strategically, they won’t need to rely on it as much.
Need For Speed: Unbound is available now on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
